Abstract

Despite being a treatable disease, diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of new cases of blindness in North America. Unfortunately, there exists a significant gap between the published guidelines and the rate of screening among Ontarians. This perspective discusses reasons for this gap and explores potential solutions to target this issue. Implications for clinical practice are also addressed.
